As an experienced Year 7 Science tutor, Alex strictly adheres to the official Victorian Curriculum. She ensures students master all required areas and meet the achievement standards set by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority. Here's what students will cover throughout the year:
Alex will guide students to understand how scientific knowledge evolves as new evidence becomes available. Students will explore how science and technology contribute to solutions for contemporary issues and the ethical considerations these solutions may involve. These fundamental concepts help students appreciate the dynamic nature of scientific knowledge
Biological Sciences
Students will learn about the diversity within and between groups of organisms and how classification helps organize this diversity. Alex will teach them about cells as the basic units of living things with specialized structures and functions. Students will explore interactions between organisms through food chains and food webs, including how human activity affects these interactions. They'll also study how multicellular organisms contain systems of organs with specialized functions enabling survival and reproduction.
Alex will help students understand that mixtures, including solutions, contain combinations of pure substances that can be separated using various techniques. Students will explore how the properties of different states of matter can be explained using particle motion and arrangement. They'll learn to describe differences between elements, compounds, and mixtures using particle models and understand that chemical change involves substances reacting to form new substances.
Students will study predictable phenomena on Earth, including seasons and eclipses, caused by the relative positions of the Sun, Earth, and Moon. Alex will teach them about renewable and non-renewable resources, the water cycle, and how sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks contain minerals formed by processes occurring within Earth over various timescales.
Alex will guide students in understanding how unbalanced forces cause changes to an object's motion, including Earth's gravity pulling objects toward its center. Students will explore different forms of energy (kinetic, heat, light, chemical, potential) and how devices can transform energy between forms. They'll learn how light forms images using curved mirrors and lenses, and how sound properties can be explained using wave models.
Throughout the year, Alex will develop students' abilities to identify questions for scientific investigation, plan and conduct experiments, measure variables, and collect accurate data. Students will learn to construct and use various representations to record data, use scientific knowledge to evaluate claims and draw conclusions, reflect on investigation methods, and communicate scientific ideas and findings using appropriate language and representations.
Alex aligns her tutoring directly with the official Victorian Curriculum requirements while making science engaging and accessible. Her lessons cover every content description in the curriculum, ensuring students are thoroughly prepared for assessments and classroom activities.
Rather than just teaching facts, Alex focuses on building students' scientific inquiry skills and conceptual understanding—exactly as outlined in the achievement standards for Year 7. Parents can rest assured that their child will develop the exact skills and knowledge needed for classroom success and beyond, all while following the official curriculum framework.
